One of the most astonishing churches of Italy, characterized by its stones and its white and blacks marble, it was built from 1136 to 1382.
A nave remained unfinished because of the plague of 1348, without what, it would have become the largest Christian cathedral.
Decorations and chefs d'oeuvre abound there - perhaps excessively – among its sculptures of Donatello, Pisano and Michel-Angel.
