One of the most harmonious places of the world, its current aspect with its shell shape was decided in 1293 by the council of the Nine ones, at the time where the city was powerful and independent.
It is dominated by the Palazzo Pubblico palate and its medieval tower with 102m (the higher second of Italy, 1342).
The red brick paving of the Piazza del Campo square has the shape of a shell, it is divided into nine sectors and was finished in 1349.
The remainder of the buildings which surround the place is consisted in coffees, restaurants and medieval palates of beautiful invoice.
The famous Palio - horse-race - is held there every years, the July 2 and August 16.
